The increased use of computers in our places of work and recreation has given rise to many computer-related problems. These problems can include:
- Wrist pain from typing or keyboarding.
- Thumb and finger pain from holding and clicking the mouse.
- Elbow pain from typing or from reaching for the mouse.
- Headaches from looking at a monitor.
- Back pain or hip pain from prolonged sitting.
- Vision problems from spending too long looking at a monitor.
Other problems that could be related to overuse of a computer can include general wrist discomfort, finger tingling, finger numbness, shoulder pain or shoulder discomfort, and vision or eye fatigue.
In addition to these problems, computer operation could also be affected by missing or non-functional fingers, tremor, coordination problems, limited endurance, limited reach and difficulty seeing the keys on the keyboard.
Stay at Work
We can assist you in staying at work. Neil Squire Solutions can help you change the setup of your workstation, change your work habits, or find alternate input and output devices to accommodate your discomfort. This may be all you need to continue working. These services are offered on a fee-for-service basis to individual and corporate clients.
Many specialized keyboards, mice and other input and output devices exist to help accommodate these conditions, but they are not readily available for evaluation in the regular retail chains. Neil Squire Solution’s assessment services and the Neil Squire Solutions lab can assist you in finding the best and most up-to-date solutions for your situation. Neil Squire Solutions can also provide advice on how to make ergonomic adjustments to your computer and to make your workstation fit you.
Exceptions
Not a Cure
Assistive Technology is not a cure for a medical problem. Assistive technology provides a different way of doing things that may reduce the stresses that contribute to your problem. It may also provide a way of doing something that you couldn’t otherwise do.
See your Doctor
This site does not provide diagnostic or referral advice. In all cases, if you are experiencing new or different symptoms then it is strongly recommended that you see your physician.
Keeping Current
While the website strives to be up-to-date, assistive technology products can change or be discontinued. When we know a product is no longer available we remove it from this website.
