Technology Solutions > Seating and positioning > Back or Neck Pain while Sitting

Using a computer requires prolonged sitting. Where an individual has back or neck pain, that pain can be aggravated by poor sitting posture and positioning.

The chair and its adjustments are very important considerations in dealing with back and neck pain.  In addition, the relationship of the chair to the work surface, including keyboard and mouse, and computer monitor are of equal importance.

Twisting to read source documents also contributes to back and neck pain. Proper alignment of source material, using book stands or copy stands, is important.

Articulating armrests support the forearms and relieve the stress on the shoulders. This, in turn, can reduce neck and shoulder pain.
